Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha has conceded that the 23-year-old Rishabh Pant has done remarkably well in the past seven Tests that India has played against Australia and England and that he deserved to be the team’s first-choice wicketkeeper in the upcoming English summer.

Wriddhiman Saha featured in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Oval last winter. However, the fact that he struggled to score in both innings coupled with India getting knocked over for their lowest total in Test cricket-9/36- paved the way for the ouster of the veteran Bengal keeper.

Rishabh Pant was drafted back in the side and the southpaw proceeded to nail down his spot as he smashed four half-centuries and a hundred in the next seven Tests against Australia and England which included a match-saving 97 on the fifth day of the Sydney Test and a series-winning 89* at the Gabba that helped India gun down the total of 328.

Wriddhiman Saha, who has been named in the Indian squad for the upcoming Test summer in England which includes the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand and a five-match rubber against hosts England, has come to terms with him being the second-choice keeper for now and he reckoned that he will be working hard and wait for the elusive opportunity if and when it arises.

”Rishabh Pant played the last few matches of the World Test Championship, he’s done well and he should be our first-choice keeper in England. I would just wait, and if any opportunity arises, I will give my best. I will keep practicing for that one chance,” Wriddhiman Saha said in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda.
