The India women’s national cricket team witnessed a special moment as Deepti Sharma entered into the record books by matching one of the biggest legends during the team’s second Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 against the Netherlands in Leeds on Wednesday (June 17).
The Indian all-rounder has equalled legendary former fast bowler Jhulan Goswami for the most wickets in international cricket across the formats in women’s cricket. However, India suffered a massive setback in form of Shreyanka Patil in the middle of the mega event.

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has become the joint-highest wicket-taker in women’s international cricket. She reached the historic milestone after taking one wicket for 26 runs in her three-over spell against Netherlands Women in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash on Wednesday.
By dismissing Phebe Molkenboer during the match, Deepti has equalled the record of Jhulan Goswami for the most wickets in women’s international cricket. Now, Goswami and Deepti both have 355 international wickets to their names.
They are followed by some of the biggest names in women’s cricket – England’s Katherine Sciver-Brunt with 335 wickets, Australian legend Ellyse Perry with 332, England spinner Sophie Ecclestone with 327, and South African pacer Shabnim Ismail with 318.

Well, Deepti Sharma has been one of India's most successful bowlers across all formats. She has picked up 166 wickets in 124 ODI matches and is only behind Jhulan Goswami, who leads India's ODI wicket charts with 255 wickets.
Deepti Sharma is currently the world's highest wicket-taker in T20I cricket with 167 wickets from 146 matches. She has also impressed in Test cricket, taking 22 wickets in just six matches for India.
India storm to Group A top after massive 95-run demolition of Netherlands
Speaking about the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A match, the India women’s national cricket team once again showed complete dominance after crushing Pakistan in their tournament opener. They posted a huge total of 209/5 after batting first, which became their highest ever score in Women’s T20 World Cup history.
Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave India a flying start against the Netherlands bowlers in Leeds. While Mandhana played a classy and aggressive knock of 74 runs from 47 balls with help of 11 fours and a six, Shafali played a stunning knock of 55 runs off 38 balls with 10 fours.
Richa Gosh also contributed a quick unbeaten 20 runs off just 8 balls to help the team cross the 200-run mark. Caroline de Lange was the standout bowler for Netherlands with two wickets for 32 runs in 4 overs against India.
Shree Charani wreaks havoc after Mandhana-Shafali storm
Defending the target, Shree Charani turned the game with an excellent spell of 4/19, while Shafali also surprised everyone with the ball, taking 3/20 against Netherlands. Nandni Sharma also chipped in with 2/22 as Netherlands were bundled out for just 114 runs.
With the 95-run win over the Netherlands, India climbed to the top of Group A with four points at the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
