Delhi Capitals face a big blow as four overseas players from their squad pulled out of the remainder of IPL 2025. Faf Du Plessis, Mitchell Starc, Devonan Ferriera, and Jake Fraser McGurk opted out of the tournament.
Earlier, Starc’s news came in the morning that he’ll be unavailable for the Capitals for the remainder of the tournament, and now Du Plessis will also miss the rest of the games.
Faf du Plessis clears he won't be joining Delhi Capitals
Du Plessis scored 168 runs in six innings, and after Fraser-McGurk's departure, it will increase the difficulties for the Capitals in the top order and his South African fellow Ferreira scored only one run in one match.
Currently, there is only one foreign player left in Delhi's squad, and that is Dushmantha Chameera.

The top order position is now unsettled for the Capitals after Du Plessis and Fraser-McGurk opted out of the remainder of the tournament.
Indian players like KL Rahul, Abhishek Porel or Karun Nair will have to take responsibility in the top order.
Overseas replacement for Delhi Capitals
Delhi signed only six foreign players, and out of these six, four players opted out of the remainder of the tournament.
Only Chameera and Tristan Stubbs have confirmed their return to the league. Stubbs will be available for the playoffs also, as he is not included in the South Africa WTC final squad.
Delhi announced Mustrafizur Rahman as the replacement for Fraser-McGurk, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board is yet to give him a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for playing in the IPL 2025. Rahman is currently in Sharjah for the T20I series against the UAE.
Delhi also acquired Sediqullah Atal, but he was the replacement for Harry Brook, who didn’t participate in the league from the start as well.
The Capitals haven’t announced any replacements for Starc, Du Plessis, and Ferreira yet. They are now in short supply of overseas players and will look to sign at least one or two foreign players for the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals' playoff scenario
Delhi haven’t finished their last game against Punjab Kings, which was abandoned due to security concerns. They bowled just 10 overs in the match, and Punjab scored 122 runs in 10.1 overs. This match will be resumed from this point.
They need to win at least two matches from their last three games. Currently, they are in fifth position in the points table with 13 points in 11 games. Their remaining matches are against Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans.
