DC will step into the IPL 2025 mega-auction without their long-term captain Rishabh Pant who will end his nine-year stint with the franchise since 2016.
The Capitals have retained only four players with All-rounder Axar Patel (Rs 16.50 crore), spinner Kuldeep Yadav (Rs 13.25 crore), batsman Tristan Stubbs (Rs 10 crore), and wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel (Rs 4 crore).
This conservative retention strategy leaves them with a substantial purse of Rs 73 crore for the auction.
Pant, whose retention at Rs 16 crore in 2022 was DC's primary choice, has left all stunned. He had been supported by the franchise with successive mega-auctions in 2018 and 2022 and had been the face of the team.

Following a rather disappointing season in 2024 where they ended sixth and were out of the playoffs, DC unveiled a massive overhaul. It parted ways with 24 players with such international stars as David Warner, Anrich Nortje, Mitchell Marsh, and Harry Brook.
The current set of Delhi Capitals lacks pace bowlers after releasing the entire fast-bowling unit, including Nortje and Khaleel Ahmed. They will have a strong spin foundation with Axar and Kuldeep, but they will need to invest heavily in fast bowlers and top-order batsmen.
The team is also without a captain, leading to speculation about potential targets like Shreyas Iyer, who previously led DC and recently won the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders. Other rumored targets include power-hitters Jos Buttler and Phil Salt, along with all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.
Delhi Capitals' previous rebuilds have been mixed results. Their last big rebuild in 2022 saw consecutive playoff misses, a far cry from the 2020 finals appearance that they saw under Iyer's captaincy.
