The 22-year-old Delhi off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen has created history by becoming the first tactical substitute, known as Impact Player, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Hrithik Shokeen became the first Impact Player in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Tuesday, October 11, during the match between Delhi and Manipur at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground.

Shokeen, who was acquired by the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction for ₹20 lakh, was brought into the game as an Impact Player at the start of the second innings of the match when Delhi were defending 167 in an Elite Group B game against Manipur.

Shokeen had a major impact with the ball in the match during the second innings as he gave away just 13 runs in his 3 overs and ended up picking the wickets of Johnson Singh and Langlonyamba Meitan Keishangbam.

Hrithik Shokeen replaced opening batsman Hiten Dalal in the fixture against Manipur to become the first Impact Player in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Opener Hiten Dalal had batted brilliantly in the first innings and smashed 47 runs off 27 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six. Also, Delhi managed to restrict Manipur to 96/7 in 20 overs to seal a massive 71-run win in their tournament opener.

Meanwhile, there were a few more notable names, who were also used as the ‘Impact Player’ on the opening day of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

During the fixture between Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu opener Hari Nishaanth replaced left-arm pacer T Natarajan in the game. Also, during the match between Karnataka and Maharashtra, Shreyas Gopal replaced opener Devdutt Padikkal in the game.

The concept of the Impact Player was recently introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the ongoing season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The BCCI aims to get feedback from players and coaches and if there is positive feedback the Impact Player rule could be introduced in the upcoming seasons of the marquee Indian Premier League (IPL).
