Delhi police tighten up security from IGI airport to Maurya hotel ahead of World Cup-winning Team India's arrival

Ahead of Team India's much-awaited arrival in New Delhi, the local police are taking all possible measures to ensure the safety of the players and other members of the team.

The T20 World Cup winners will land in the national capital in the early hours on Thursday (July 4). After landing at the IGI Airport, the team will be leaving for the Maurya Hotel. And the police have made adequate security arrangements at the airport and as well as the team hotel, according to a report in PTI.

The police have decided to provide the team with escort vehicles that will have armed policemen. The security personnel will be escorting the team from the airport to the hotel. The Indian team is expected to land in New Delhi at around 6 am and the police are expecting a good number of fans at the airport.

Apart from escorting the team, the police force will also remain deployed at the routes from the airport to the hotel. A Delhi police official has said that at least two companies of paramilitary personnel have been deployed around the hotel and routes in central Delhi. The police are anticipating the fans to gather on the road and outside the hotel to welcome the victorious Indian team.

After a short stay at the Maurya Hotel, Team India members will be leaving for the Prime Minister's residence. They will meet PM Narendra Modi at 11 am before leaving for Mumbai on the same day.

Open-top bus parade for Team India:

Team India will have an open-top bus parade in Mumbai to celebrate the victory at the T20 World Cup 2024. Captain Rohit Sharma himself confirmed the news on Wednesday (July 3) as he invited the fans to the victory celebration. The veteran batsman wrote that the celebrations will begin at 5:00 PM.

The victory in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup ended India's long wait for an ICC trophy. India had not won any ICC competition since 2013 before beating South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup last week. The Men in Blue beat the Proteas by 7 runs in a thrilling game to become the second team after West Indies and England to win the T20 World Cup for the second time.

Meanwhile, India's first assignment as the T20 world champions will be the five-match series against Zimbabwe, starting later this week. Shubman Gill will be leading a second-string Indian side in the series.
