Former Indian spinner and CSK stalwart Ravichandran Ashwin has clarified his stance on the remarks made on Dewald Brevis' inclusion in the CSK unit. He had firmly ruled out any foul play or discrepancy on the side of the CSK management and asserted that his words were minced to make a controversial statement out of it.

After struggling in the first half of the tournament, Chennai Super Kings had further setbacks in the form of injuries to their crucial players. They then made some replacements, one of which included Dewald Brevis being brought in as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh.

Brevis had a very good season with CSK; however, recently, former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made a controversial comment on the CSK management regarding the Brevis deal. His words were inclined to the manipulation of rules made by the management to acquire Brevis in the middle of the season.

Ashwin issues clarification over earlier remarks on Dewald Brevis

After the controversy broke, where Ashwin accused the CSK management of having paid an extra bit of money to Brevis to have him in the middle of the season, which declares a bend of rules, the management issued their official statement, which states that no rules were broken as Brevis was paid the same INR 2.20 crores, which was the auction bid price of the injured Gurjapneet Singh.

Even the CSK stalwart has now come out openly to defend his statement and has claimed that he never mentioned any wrongdoings; he had just stated facts to clear out the doubts in the heads of many.

“I just want to say this. I focus more on cricket rather than the chatter on social media. We make videos on YouTube to give our opinions. People who watch our videos don't do any wrongdoing. However, those who don't watch can twist the statements according to their whims and fancies. In today's world, news can be made based on one statement or headline,” Ashwin said on his channel ‘Ash Ki Baat.’

“The way Brevis is batting, CSK has struck gold. The decision to bring him on board is very good. The franchise has struck gold during the purple patch of Dewald Brevis. He has been batting really well; he hits big sixes. Power-striker, monstrous hitter against spin,” he added.

Ravichandran Ashwin reacts to CSK statement

Reacting to the CSK official statement, Ashwin mentioned that his attempts were only to clarify the doubts of many people, who were confused about Brevis' signing for INR 2.20 Crores, since unsold players are most likely to be picked for their base prices.

“In today's time, there is a need to clarify the right things as well. There is no mistake by anyone; clarification on this matter has arisen from the fact that a lot of people have doubts. The fact is that no mistake has been made by the franchise, the player and the governing body,” said Ashwin.

“One must understand that when a franchise wants a player, they talk to the latter and their agent. The franchise then tells the BCCI about a player getting injured and a replacement player coming in. If there is anything wrong in the process, that player would not play for the franchise,” he added.

Ashwin further went on to state that his attempt in the previous video was also to solely talk about his current form and dominance in international cricket ever since he started for the Chennai Super Kings.

“My intent in the old video was to talk about Brevis' batting, not about his IPL signing amount. We have to understand that every player who plays in the IPL has a contract with the franchise and the tournament. The franchise and the IPL have a binding contract. If there is anything wrong, it won't be ratified,” said Ashwin.

Ravichandran Ashwin also hinted at Dewald Brevis' possible team change in SA20. Currently, Dewald Brevis plays for the MI Cape Town franchise in the South African T20.

"If you're an RCB or a CSK fan, you should sit back and go GAGA over the prospects that these teams have for the future. There are multiple tournaments, and I think Dewald Brevis will also turn up in the SA20. I am hearing that Dewald Brevis might change teams in SA20 as well. So let's wait and watch," Ravichandran Ashwin concluded.

Dewald Brevis misses Virat Kohli's record in Australia by a whisker

Dewald Brevis, the youngster, has been dominating T20 cricket for South Africa. Though Brevis was in a fair form in the tri-series, his form has shot up to the highest standard as people have once again started to tag him as the 'Baby AB.'

Brevis, with a century and a fifty, has scored 180 runs in 3 games in the series against Australia and now sits second after Virat Kohli to have scored the most runs in a T20I series in Australia. Kohli sits at the top with 199 runs in 3 games. Brevis fell 20 runs short, but his remarkable 125* will be an innings to remember.

“Injury replacements are very common in the IPL. It is about how you go about the rule flexibility. That is the point. If you are a CSK and South Africa fan, then it is time to be extremely excited about Brevis. He is a special talent,” Ashwin added on Brevis' calibre.
