Dhruv Jurel smashes Abhinandan Singh for 24 runs in RR vs RCB clash

The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match no.16, was between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). RR won the toss and opted to field first; both teams made one change to their side, respectively. RCB, while batting first, had a collapse, but Rajat Patidar scored a brilliant half-century and helped his team to score 201/8.

Coming out to chase the target of 202, RR’s wicket-keeper batter Dhurv Jurel took charge in the last over of the powerplay, scoring 24 runs off the final powerplay over against Abhinandan Singh, as he smacked three boundaries and two sixes in the over to finish off the powerplay.

RR are on a roll

RR scored 97/1 in the power play, and it was their highest ever score in the first six overs of the game. They also brought up the highest-ever score in the power play of this year's IPL. Dhruv Jurel was the watcher at the non-striker end with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi taking the charge. After that, the former joined the party.

The two batters brought up the 100 partnership in no time, as they were 129/1 after the end of 8 overs. However, in the 8.1 over, Krunal Pandya took the big fish as Sooryavanshi was back in the pavilion after scoring 78 off 26 balls and put the Royals in the driver's seat. In the next ball, Shimron Hetmyer was back after a first-ball duck.

RCB making a comeback

RR were reduced from 129/1 to 129/3 in the span of two deliveries. But Dhruv Jurel was there at the crease, and Riyan Parag, the captain, came into bat and faced the hat-trick ball against Krunal Pandya, and Parag guided the hat-trick ball to a single. The Royals need 70 of 66 at the point when Hetmyer got out.

The match was delayed due to rain; however, no overs were lost as it was a full 20-over contest. RCB were off to the worst possible start after being invited to bat first as they lost Phil Salt in the first ball of the innings. Then Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal took charge, and the former was dismissed on the score of 32.

Rajat Patidar played a captain's knock

The runs were flowing for the reigning champions, but wickets fell at regular intervals. As they had a small collapse as they were 94/6 at one stage, however, Rajat Patidar had other ideas as he led the side with the bat, scoring a brilliant half-century and was dismissed on the score of 63.

RCB, due to early wickets, had to bring in Venkatesh Iyer as an impact player, and the Southpaw on his debut game for the champions did not disappoint, playing a finisher's role at the end of the innings, scoring 29 off 15 balls, as RCB scored 201. RR openers were on fire coming out to chase and in quick time Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reached his fifty in 15 balls.
