Virat Kohli, a former captain of India, is currently dealing with certain difficulties. The great batsman lately had a forgettable appearance against England and still has to play a big hit for quite some time. Virat only actually scored 76 runs against the English team in six innings across all forms.

He chose to take a break from the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies, which begins with a three-match ODI series on Friday (July 22) in Port of Spain, to energize himself.

Virat’s performance has been discussed recently in the cricket community, and several past greats have offered their advice on how to help the former Indian captain turn things around.

‘He needs to work hard in that area’: Dilip Vengsarkar

Dilip Vengsarkar, a former Indian captain and chief selector, has offered some advice to Virat amid all the talk about his batting performance in international cricket that may help him recover. The fact that Virat is going out the same way game in and game out, edging the ball outside off-stump, is what is worsening the situation in addition to his recent bad luck.

Referring to the pattern of Virat’s departure, Dilip Vengsarkar stated that the top right-handed batter can also avoid playing deliveries outside the off-stump line by using Sachin Tendulkar’s example from the 2004 Sydney Test.

“If you use Sachin Tendulkar as an example, he left Australia the same way in 2004. He effectively eliminated that scoring zone as a result, hitting 241 in the last Test of that series without using the cover drive. Virat is similarly capable of doing the same. He needs to put in a lot of effort and play well in that area,” Dilip Vengsarkar told Khaleej Times.

Notably, during India’s 2003–04 tour of Australia, Australian bowlers were consistently out-stumping Sachin, thus in the Sydney Test, the Master Blaster decided not to play a cover drive and instead hit an unbroken 241 runs.
