Former India spinner Amit Mishra has hailed Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane as a talented bowler. While things have not gone well for Sandeep Lamichhane in recent times, he is widely regarded as the most prominent cricketing figure from Nepal.
Not very long ago, Sandeep Lamichhane was regarded as one of the best T20 bowlers in the world as he earned contracts from T20 franchises across the world including an IPL franchise. In 2018, Sandeep Lamichhane created history by becoming the first-ever cricketer from Nepal to earn an IPL contract. Till date, he remains the only cricketer from his country to get an IPL contract.
He was signed up by Delhi Capitals in 2018 and stayed with the franchise for three seasons. He played 9 games for Delhi Capitals and picked up 13 wickets before being released ahead of the 2021 season.
Apart from playing in the IPL, Sandeep Lamichhane has also plied his trade in the Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Bangladesh Premier League, Global T20 Canada, The Hundred and Lanka Premier League.
While other cricketers from Nepal were struggling to find their feet at the highest stage of the game, Lamichhane was earning contract after contract from franchises across the world. Unsurprisingly, he was backed by many to reach great heights.
However, things took an unaccepted turn in 2023 when he was found guilty of raping an 18-year-old woman. In January this year, he was sentenced to eight years in prison but the decision was later overturned.
Amit Mishra on Sandeep Lamichhane:
Amit Mishra was recently asked about Sandeep Lamichhane when he made an appearance on Shubhankar Mishra Podcast. The veteran bowler played with Lamichhane for Delhi Capitals in the past and had nothing but praise for him.
He called him a talented bowler and also backed him to do well in the future. Mishra, however, made an interesting claim, saying that the Nepal bowler is mentally childish.
"He was a talented bowler, no doubt. He still is a very talented bowler. It's not like he has given up cricket. If he puts in good effort and gets proper guidance, he can do well," said Amit Mishra before adding:
"But he is a bit immature. He needs to work on improving that (Lekin dimaag se thoda baccha hai. Wo thoda usko improve karna padega)."

After being set free by the court, Lamichhane returned to the Nepal side for the T20 World Cup last month. He could not play the games in the USA due to the visa denial but played two games that Nepal played in the Caribbeans. He went wicketless against South Africa but picked up 2 wickets against Bangladesh.
