Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has named Australia’s star pacer and skipper Pat Cummins as the best captain in the world right now, overlooking Rohit Sharma's achievements as India’s captain.

Rohit led India to a historic T20 World Cup win in June 2024, while Cummins' leadership has been nothing short of extraordinary. Since taking over as Australia’s captain in 2021, Pat Cummins led Australia to the ICC World Test Championship and ODI World Cup titles in 2023.

Adding to his accolades, Cummins also captained Australia to their first Test series win over India after a decade. The Australian cricket team secured a 3-1 victory in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 despite a tough start with a heavy loss of 295 runs in the first Test to clinch the prestigious trophy after more than a decade.

Highlighting Cummins’ leadership qualities, Karthik was in awe of how the Australian captain manages the media and handles both pre- and post-match situations. The former Indian wicketkeeper said that Cummins had that aura and leadership quality in his blood, and with the way he conducts himself both on and off the field, he deserves applause and respect.

The former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Karthik noted that Cummins shows how he should be the perfect leader, and he is currently the best captain in international cricket presently, saying he has the ability to lead a group of men.

Pat Cummins is the most aggressive cricketer right now: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik said on the latest episode of HeyCB with DK in Cricbuzz, “I feel Pat Cummins is the most aggressive cricketer on the planet right now. And he doesn’t do it with talking or abusing. He does it with his body language, the way he handles the media, post-matches, and pre-matches. He has in him the ability to lead a group of men, and for me, he is the number one captain in the world right now.”

However, Cummins is likely to miss the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting on February 19 in Pakistan. The Australian pacer is scheduled for scans on his sore ankle, and the results will decide if he can participate in the eight-nation tournament. Notably, the Champions Trophy is returning after a seven-year hiatus.
