Former England captain Nasser Hussain has hilariously warned that Dinesh Karthik, the batting coach and mentor of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), might become unbearable if his team wins the IPL 2025. Notably, RCB has already qualified for the IPL 2025 final.

Dinesh Karthik took on the role of RCB mentor just a month after his retirement from all forms of the game in 2024. As Royal Challengers Bangalore are just one step away from clinching their maiden IPL title, Hussain joked that winning the trophy in his first season as coach and mentor would make Karthik hard to handle.

Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain warn of ‘Unbearable’ Dinesh Karthik if RCB wins IPL 2025

Nasser Hussain said in jest on the Sky Sports Podcast, “RCB have got through to the finals. If they win that, DK is going to be unbearable. One season as coach/mentor and he's won it.” Notably, Hussain and Karthik have worked together on the Sky Sports commentary panel for the past couple of years.

Adding to the fun, another former England captain, Michael Atherton, said that Karthik could be "doubly unbearable" if RCB lifts the trophy this season. Atherton compared Karthik’s potential celebrations to footballer John Terry, imagining him proudly holding the IPL trophy alongside star player Virat Kohli during the presentation on June 3.

Michael Atherton said, “He's unbearable at the best of times; he's going to be doubly unbearable. He'll be like John Terry at the front of the RCB trophy presentation, holding it there with Virat Kohli.”

Dinesh Karthik reveals RCB's IPL 2025 Mega Auction masterplan

Recently, Dinesh Karthik has opened up about his auction strategy. He was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald, “I thought we did beautifully in picking a very balanced squad, knowing what sort of players we want and which player would fit in which role.”

He added, “As we were picking the team, we used to put players in certain roles and see how they fit. We were very sure this is the kind of batting order we wanted. And in the auction prep as well, we had a few eleven as combinations, and in that, we had certain players, certain names in mind.”

RCB makes it to IPL Qualifier 1 for the first time since 2016

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their spot in Qualifier 2 by beating Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the Eliminator on May 30.

Now, Mumbai Indians will take on Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 on June 1, with the winner advancing to face RCB again in the summit clash on June 3 in Ahmedabad. This marked RCB’s fourth appearance in the IPL final, having previously reached the finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016.

However, it was their first appearance in Qualifier 1 for the first time since 2016. RCB has been a consistent force, making the IPL playoffs in five of the last six seasons. Impressively, they won all seven of their away matches during the league stage this season.
