Disgraceful Treatment Of Justin Langer: Brad Hogg Slams Cricket Australia

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg lashed out at Cricket Australia after Australia head coach Justin Langer stepped down from the role.

After days of speculation over Langer’s contract with Cricket Australia, the former opening batter tendered his resignation from the head coach role on Saturday (February 5).

Langer’s four years of contract with Cricket Australia was supposed to end in June with Australia’s tour of Pakistan could have been his last task.

“As a player, Justin retired on top after a 5-0 Ashes whitewash. Today, despite the views of a faceless few, he finishes his time as Australian cricket coach winning the T20 WC and the Ashes. Lest we forget what JL took over in 2018,” Langer’s manager James Henderson issued a statement.

Cricket Australia had a lengthy meeting with Langer on Friday but the two parties couldn’t pen a suitable deal. The Australian board stated that they offered Langer a short-term deal but that wasn’t sufficient for him.

Langer was appointed as the head coach of Australia after the infamous ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town. Under him, Australia retained the Ashes in England (in 2019), won the ODI series in India (3-2 in 2019), T20 World Cup 2021 (in UAE) and The Ashes in Down Under (last series in charge).

Hogg was disgruntled with the kind of treatment Langer received from Cricket Australia. Hogg demanded respect for his former teammate and applauded him for his remarkable achievements.

“Disgraceful treatment of Langer. Would love to know what Langer’s KPI’s were when he took over the basket case left from South Africa? He left Australian cricket on top of the world from disaster. Great job mate. #Leadership #cricket #ICC #cricketaustralia,” Hogg tweeted on his official Twitter handle.

“He picked up the pieces, a little more – sorry, but a lot more respect should be shown. History has shown that if you don’t have a leader at the helm who is willing to call a spade a spade, it can lead to a period of decay,” he wrote in another tweet.

Assistant coach Andrew McDonald was named as the interim coach, he will take the charge of the Australian national team for the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting on February 11 in Sydney.
