Team India have just received yet another reward for winning the 2026 T20 World Cup. For the first time in the history of the T20 World Cup, a team claimed the title for the third time.
Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and coached by Gautam Gambhir, India won the final by defeating New Zealand. Because of the heroic run in the tournament, Men in Blue is now at the helm of the format in international cricket.
ICC ranked Team India Number 1 in T20I rankings
The ICC has released fresh T20I rankings, with India at the top of the points table. The latest rankings rate all matches played since May 2025 at 100 per cent and those of the previous two years at 50 per cent. With a rating of 275 after playing 52 matches in this time frame, Team India is ranked 1 in the ICC T20I rankings. The England cricket team is in second place with a rating of 262 in 34 matches.
ICC, in their official release, shared on May 5, informed, "This update is a little surprise for the Asian side, who have dominated the format over the last two years. They have claimed the Men’s T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026, and have been undefeated in all the T20I series between these two events."

India, at the helm, co-host Sri Lanka went down in the rankings
In the official press release, the International Cricket Council informed that the top seven of the T20I rankings for men's cricket remain more or less unchanged, with Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and West Indies at the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh spots, respectively.
However, Sri Lanka suffered a setback as it slipped one spot in the rankings. ICC informed that a drop of six rating points for Sri Lanka sees them slip downwards to the ninth spot, while Bangladesh (225 points), which gained one point in the update, is up at eighth. It is a major setback for the Sri Lanka cricket team as they were the co-host of the T20 World Cup 2026. Afghanistan, the team ranked 10th in the list, only behind by 1 points from Sri Lanka. Afghanistan secured 220 Ranking in the latest list of the ICC Men's T20I Rankings.
Some other teams gained significant growth
The teams outside the top 10, who played in the 2026 T20 WC, gained significant growth in the rankings. ICC informed, "The USA has leapfrogged two spots after gaining six points, and see themselves rise to the 13th place, overtaking the Netherlands and Scotland, who are at 14th and 15th ranks respectively. Namibia was unchanged at 16th place while Nepal (17th) and Oman (19th) jumped a spot each, overtaking UAE (18th) and Canada (20th) respectively. T20 World Cup debutants Italy gained 11 points and gained three spots from 26th to the 23rd rank."
