New Zealand has suffered a double blow as opener Finn Allen and pace bowler Adam Milne have been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. Finn Allen and Adam Milne sustained injuries on the eve of their departure to Pakistan for the five-match series.

The New Zealand selectors have chosen a second-string squad for the series, with key players absent due to their commitments in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Michael Bracewell will lead the Blackcaps for the first time, despite not having played a T20I in over a year.

Finn Allen sustained a back injury, while Adam Milne suffered an ankle knock during training prior to their departure on Friday. Their injuries will prevent them from participating in the upcoming five-match series, which is scheduled to begin next week in Rawalpindi.

Tom Blundell and all-rounder Zak Foulkes have been named as replacements. Blundell, who toured Pakistan last year, will provide reliable coverage in both wicketkeeping and batting. Meanwhile, Zak Foulkes has earned his first call-up to the Blackcaps squad.

Allen, known for his explosive batting, is expected to secure his spot in New Zealand's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. However, Milne's selection is less certain due to his injury history and competition among fast bowlers for limited spots in the final squad for the USA and Caribbean.

We Feel For Both Finn Allen And Adam Milne - Gary Stead

New Zealand coach Gary Stead highlighted Finn Allen and Adam Milne's significant contributions to the team's T20 success since the last World Cup. Stead assured that the support staff would collaborate with the players for their treatment and eventual return to cricket.

“We feel for both Finn and Adam, suffering injuries so close to the start of the tour. They have been strong performers for us in the T20 format since the last World Cup," Stead said.

“Our support staff and medical networks will be working closely with both players over the next few weeks to complete plans for their treatment and subsequent return to cricket.”

Tom Blundell Brings Recent Experience In The Conditions - Gary Stead

Gary Stead expressed confidence in the additions of Blundell and Foulkes, highlighting their valuable skill sets. He commended Foulkes for his outstanding performance for Canterbury, emphasizing his prowess with both bat and ball in T20 cricket.

“Tom is a highly experienced player and along with his wicketkeeping and batting skillsets is a leader in any group he is a part of. He also brings recent experience in the conditions, having taken part in both tours to Pakistan last year," Stead added.

“Zak has had an impressive season for Canterbury including being their leading wicket taker in all three competitions. He has displayed impressive skills with the ball, particularly in T20 cricket for the Kings. We also know he has skills with the bat and it will be an excellent opportunity for him to be part of the group.”

Zak Foulkes impressed Black Caps selectors with his outstanding bowling performance for Canterbury in domestic tournaments. The 21-year-old all rounder claimed 14 wickets at an average of 16.28 and showcased a batting strike rate of 150 in the 2023-24 Super Smash.

Additionally, Tom Blundell, who serves as New Zealand's Test wicketkeeper, brings experience from his previous seven T20I appearances.
