The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said that it is yet to take a final call on playing the white-ball series against Afghanistan in July. According to reports, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are set to play three ODIs and as many T20Is against each other next month.
The series is set to take place in Greater Noida, the venue which was Afghanistan's home base in India not very long ago. However, the BCB has put the entire series in doubt by stating that it is yet to make a final decision. This comes after the board had announced that Bangladesh's all-format away series against Afghanistan in July has been rescheduled.
Afghanistan were expected to play two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is against Bangladesh. However, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) later prepared a new itinerary and dropped the two Tests. According to Cricbuzz, the ACB has planned to conduct the series in Greater Noida between July 25 and August 6.
Both the boards are discussing playing the two Tests in 2025 because of Bangladesh's busy schedule this year. As a result, the ACB has prepared the itinerary only for the limited-overs games. However, the limited-overs series is in doubt as well.
BCB yet to take final call on Afghanistan vs Bangladesh series:
According to Cricbuzz, the BCB will take the final call on the series against Afghanistan after sitting with the team management. The board wants to prioritize the players' workload management and will take the final call only after a discussion with the team.
"Basically this was in discussion (playing three ODIs and three T20I against Afghanistan in Noida in July) but yet to take any final decision," BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.
"The series was earlier penciled in FTP but we are yet to finalize anything in this regard (as far as playing them in July is concerned)," he added.
Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan are currently in the Caribbeans for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. Both the teams have been drawn in Group 1 alongside India and Australia for the Super 8s.
