Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia announced that Dream11 would no longer serve as the Indian team’s lead jersey sponsor. However, the fantasy sports company reacted to it, with its CEO stating that no decision has been made on contract termination with the board.

The Indian government passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill in Parliament. This bill bans money-based fantasy sports and gambling platforms in India. Dream11 has to halt its paid contests. With the Asia Cup set to begin on September 9 in Dubai, Bthe CCI is currently in talks with the company.

BCCI and Dream11 Are Discontinuing Their Relationship - Devajit Saikia

Dream Sports, the parent company of Dream11, had secured a three-year title sponsorship deal with the BCCI worth ₹358 crore in July 2023. The company took over from Byju’s as India’s lead jersey sponsor.

However, the passage and presidential approval of the Online Gaming Bill last week has made it impossible for the agreement to continue. The new law bans all money-based online games and their promotion across media and blocks financial transactions linked to such platforms.

Dream Sports’ main source of income is real-money fantasy contests. The company will not pay the BCCI if the new law impacts their business.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia spoke about Dream Sports’ exit as the jersey sponsor. “BCCI and Dream11 are discontinuing their relationship after the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, was passed. BCCI will ensure not to indulge with any such organisations in future,” he told ANI.

We've Had an Amazing Relationship With the BCCI - Dream11 CEO

Dream Sports co-founder and Dream11 CEO Harsh Jain stated that they have had an amazing relationship with the BCCI. In an interview with Moneycontrol on August 25, he added that the partnership began nearly a decade ago.

"We've had an amazing relationship with the BCCI spanning almost a decade. From the first time we became an official partner for the IPL, we were one of the first tech companies to do so. Since then, we have been fortunate to hold the IPL naming rights for the Dream11 IPL and have now become front-of-jersey sponsors for several IPL teams."

No Decision Has Been Reached Yet - Harsh Jain

Harsh Jain said that the company’s business model has been disrupted by the new gaming law. He stated that any decision regarding the sponsorship will be made only through mutual agreement, adding that talks are ongoing and no final resolution has been reached yet.

"But I think now all of that was based on a business model. And with that business model being impacted by a change in law, we are going to all our partners and saying that we don't have the ability to continue our marketing budget because the business doesn't exist anymore under the same agreement. But I think with the BCCI, it's very clear that we will only do something with mutual agreement.

And those discussions are going on right now. I can only say that no decision has been reached yet. But these are discussions about how we can mutually agree on the way forward."
