The England National Cricket Team have been hosting the Pakistan National Cricket Team for a three-match Test series. Amidst this, on Saturday, the team’s pacer Brydon Carse was caught by the police and was seen in handcuffs after an altercation in a nightclub in Derbyshire. As expected, the pacer has been dropped from the second Test match following his incident.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Sunday confirmed that they are well aware of the matter and are currently investigating it. Brydon Carse did not feature in the playing XI for the first Test and was thus released to play in the ongoing County Championship for Durham. This is the second incident in a span of two months in which any English cricketer was involved in a nightclub row.
Brydon Carse dropped as ECB names replacement
Previously, during these kinds of incidents, the ECB suspended the player from the very next game and fined them depending on the majority of the crime. As expected after the incident, the ECB on Monday confirmed that Brydon Carse is not available for selection in the forthcoming Test match at Lord’s against the Men in Green.
Carse will be replaced by young pacer Sonny Baker. The right-arm fast bowler, who plays for Hampshire, will be in the squad for the Test match. The former, who featured in the County game for Durham, picked up two wickets in the match. The Cricket Regulator is looking into incidents from Saturday night in Derby after an ECB referral.
Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts also involved in controversy
Apart from the 31-year-old pacer, former England Test captain Ben Stokes, and Carse's County teammate, were also seen in the background of the video along with another cricketer, Matthew Potts, present. They were chatting to him while he was being caught by the four police officers and was in handcuffs.
Yet again, Ben Stokes, who was involved in a nightclub controversy a few months back, starred in the game as he finished off his spell for 5-17, as Derbyshire were bowled out for 84.
In recent times, the English cricketers have been involved in nightclub controversies and breaching the curfew. The ECB needs to find a solution for the same and put in harsh punishments for the cricketers who are involved in such incidents.
