ENG vs AFG: Historic Win! Twitter Erupts As Afghanistan Upset England In Stunning World Cup Clash

The Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team faced off the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan National Cricket Team in the 13th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday, October 15.
England won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match as they wanted to chase on a good Delhi surface. The Three Lions fielded an unchanged playing XI, but the Afghans made one change by replacing Najibullah Zadran with Ikram Alikhil.
Batting first, openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran made full use of the good batting conditions and launched the attack on the English bowlers. Zadran played cautiously and was able to take his time as Gurbaz went berserk against the bowlers.
The duo added 114 runs in 101 balls before Zadran was dismissed by Adil Rashid. Then, the Afghans faced a batting collapse and were reduced to 190/6 in no time.
As Afghanistan were losing wicket at regular intervals, the wicketkeeper-batter Ikram Alikhil stood strong on one end and smashed a good 58 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman (28 ) and Rashid Khan (23) chipped in with crucial runs from the lower order and Afghanistan were able to post 284 runs on the board.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz emerged as the top performer for the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side as he smashed 80 runs off 57 balls, with 8 fours and 4 sixes. For the Jos Buttler-led side, Adil Rashid was the top wicket-taker in the bowling department as he bagged 3 wickets for 42 runs.
Chasing the target, England were off to a poor start and they struggled heavily against the Afghanistan bowlers. They lost wickets at regular intervals and lost half the side in the 21st over.
Harry Brook, who is regarded as the next big thing in England cricket, was the only one who played confidently against the Afghan bowlers. He scored a good 66 runs, but once he was dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, it was just a matter of time before the Three Lions faced an upset defeat.
England were bundled out for 215 in 40.3 overs as Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan bagged three wickets each.
Mohammad Nabi got two wickets in his 150th ODI while Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi bagged one wicket each as Afghanistan hammered England by 69 runs to register a historic win. This was only the second win Afghanistan registered in the history of the Cricket World Cup. They had earlier defeated Scotland in the 2015 World Cup.

The biggest moment in Afghanistan's cricket history. And a great example of how you accept adversity and keep looking ahead. Afghanistan remains the most memorable cricket story of our times.

No doubt there'll be plenty of discussion about what England did wrong, but that shouldn't take anything away from a superb Afghanistan performance. A wonderful moment for the whole side and for Jonathan Trott, too. #CWC23 #CWC2023 #ENGvAFG

What a day for @ACBofficials!
A magnificent performance!
Gurbaz started it, lost their way a bit but then runs for Ikram, Rashid, Mujeeb, ensured they had a score to defend.

What a moment for Afghanistan’s men – set against backdrop of devastating earthquake and Taliban rule that caused their women cricketers to flee, with no support from ICC. #CWC23 England’s WCup on the brink.
