Young off-spinner Todd Murphy lauded Australian fast bowlers for bowling with full intensity in the final match, despite being exhausted from the long tour of England. Todd Murphy stated that Mitchell Starc was rewarded with wickets for his relentless bowling throughout the spells.

Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood bowled a total of 50 overs on Day 3 of the final Ashes Test at The Oval in London. Pat Cummins played all six matches in the English summer, including the WTC 2023 final, while Mitchell Starc is suffering from discomfort in his shoulder.

Starcy Just Kept Coming Back – Todd Murphy

Speaking at a press conference at the end of Day 3, Todd Murphy said that the Australian pacers were exhausted, but they were hungry to win the final match and seal the series.

“I’m sure they’re cooked. They don’t show it, they keep charging in. The attitude’s always there. I think the hunger, especially being the last Test and to try to win the Ashes, is there,” Murphy said.

“The boys get on with it and you’ve seen today Starcy just kept coming back and coming back after a few spells and got his rewards late. You always love playing with those guys,” he added.

Mitchell Starc initially struggled with his bowling, but eventually ended the day with four wickets. Hazlewood and Cummins each took one wicket. The visitors have to chase a mammoth total to win their first Ashes series on foreign soil in 22 years.

The Margin For Error Is A Lot Smaller – Todd Murphy

The 22-year-old cricketer said that bowling against England’s batters is challenging due to their ability to punish bowlers even with a small margin of error.

“It’s tough. The margin for error is a lot smaller over here, especially with the way they’re playing, they’re looking to put the pressure back on me.

It takes some time to get your head around the fact you’re going to concede a few more runs than you’re used to playing red-ball cricket. Once you can get your head around that, the message the whole way through has been to try to keep creating chances,” he concluded.

Todd Murphy claimed three wickets for 110 runs in his 22 overs, including Ben Stokes and Joe Root. The visitors were still in need of one more wicket to bowl out the opposition, who were leading by 377 runs.
