Wasim Jaffer could not stop himself from having some fun at the expense of Michael Vaughan once again after England‘s defeat against India in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
England’s slim chances of qualifying for the semifinal took a huge hit with the loss against India. They entered the game on the back of three straight losses and four losses in five games. The Jos Buttler-led side needed to win the game at all cost to keep alive their slim chances.
The reigning champions started well with the ball and had India reeling at 40 for 3. A 91-run stand between Rohit Sharma (87) and KL Rahul (39) then steadied the ship before England struck back by dismissing both of them in quick time. A 49-run knock from Suryakumar Yadav then guided India to 229 for 9 in 50 overs.
Wasim Jaffer trolls Michael Vaughan:
England were expected to chase down the modest total. However, the reigning champions came up with yet another poor performance with the bat as India’s bowlers blew them away. Led by their star pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, India bowled out England for just 129 to win the game by 100 runs.
Liam Livingstone (27) was the only batter who touched the 20-run mark during the poor batting display. For India, Shami was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets while Bumrah picked up 3 wickets. As England suffered their fifth defeat in six games in the World Cup, Wasim Jaffer came up with a hilarious post like he usually does.
Tagging Michael Vaughan in his post, Wasim Jaffer hilariously wrote that while England can still qualify, they can do it only for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
“Cheer up @MichaelVaughan I think England can still qualify… For Champions Trophy 2025 by finishing in top 7,” Wasim Jaffer posted on microblogging site X.
And while usually Michael Vaughan replies in a humorous manner, he did not do that on this occasion. He stated that even qualifying for the Champions Trophy looks tough for England at the moment, writing: “That looks a long way off at this stage Wasim…”
