Fans on X reacted after the England cricket team thumped Bangladesh by 137 runs in the 7th game of the ICC World Cup 2023. The match between the two titans took place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The Jos Buttler-led side after losing the first game made a staggering comeback in the second match.
England were put into bat first and they cherished the challenge quite well. Their top order outplayed Bangladesh bowlers and smashed them all over the park. Jonny Bairstow began the proceedings as he smashed a brutal 52 runs and the onus was then taken by Dawid Malan, who smashed 140 runs.
The duo added the opening partnership of 115 runs before Joe Root chipped in as well. The premier batter scored 82 runs and England were in the driver’s seat. Bangladesh pulled things back brilliantly as they didn’t let power hitters set their feet in.
Jos Buttler and Harry Brook smashed 20 runs each powering England to a total of 364 runs. For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam picked three wickets whereas Mahedi Hasan was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a four-wicket haul. Taskin Ahmed and skipper Shakib Al Hasan also picked one wicket each.
England were off the flier with the ball as well. Reece Topley exhibited brilliant swing bowling and rattled the Bangladesh top order. They lost four wickets for just 49. Litton Das (76) and Mushfiqur Rahim (51) tried to bail the team out of trouble with their vital half-centuries. But they couldn’t convert the start they got as England bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals.
Towhid Hridoy (39) tried to take his team home. But he was undone by the brilliance of Liam Livingstone. England then wrapped up the Bangladesh innings on just 227 runs and won the game by 137 runs to register their first win of the ICC World Cup 2023.
