England Test captain Ben Stokes opened up about the future of Test cricket and said that red-ball cricket can coexist with T20 cricket in the future. Ben Stokes believes that he doesn’t see a world where the longest and the shortest formats of the game aren’t being played in the future.

The one-off Test match against Ireland will be played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground starting on Thursday, June 1. Following the Test match against Ireland, the Three Lions will take on Australia in a highly anticipated five-match Ashes series 2023.

Anything Is Possible – Ben Stokes

When asked about whether a 500-run day in the Ashes is possible, Ben Stokes said that it will be possible if players have the backing to go out and do it.

“Be alright, wouldn’t it? Anything is possible I think if you have the backing to go out and do it. The thing about letting guys go out and be free and stuff like that is that you just don’t know where their ability ends, if that makes sense,” he added.

“I think what we have seen over the last year is that the same players who have been playing for a while go to a lot higher in terms of their potential and them understanding they might be better than they thought they were. I think that is totally down to the mindset switch,” he concluded.

The England team adopted an aggressive batting style ‘BazBall’ in red-ball cricket under Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. The team has won 10 matches out of 12 games in the longer format of the game since they took charge last May. They put up a total of 506 for the loss of four wickets on Day 1 of the Rawalpindi Test.
