The 30-year-old England National Cricket Team explosive batsman Liam Livingstone demolished the 28-year-old New Zealand National Cricket Team pacer Kyle Jamieson during the first ODI of the four-match series at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Friday, September 8.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first in the match. They were unable to get an early breakthrough as they weren’t able to dismiss the new opening pair of Dawid Malan and Harry Brook. The openers stitched together 80 runs before Brook fell for 25. Joe Root also got out early and Malan joined him in the dugout.
After that, red-ball captain Ben Stokes joined forces with white-ball captain Jos Buttler and together they built an outstanding partnership of 88 runs off 104. Stokes got out for 52 and Liam Livingstone joined Buttler in the middle and they too had an awesome 77-run stand in 59 balls.
Liam Livingstone was the aggressor during the partnership between the two and he smashed the bowlers all over the park. He went berserk against Kyle Jamieson in the 43rd over and smashed him for a hat-trick of sixes.
England were at 218-4 after 42 overs when Jamieson was handed the ball by his skipper. On the first ball, Livingstone took a single and gave the strike to Buttler. The pacer bowled a wide next and Buttler took a single on the second legit delivery of the over to give the strike to Livingstone, who smashed a slower delivery for a six over backward square.
Livingstone then went down the ground for a stunning six, before hitting a powerful pull shot for yet another maximum and completing a hat-trick of sixes. On the last delivery of the over, Livingstone gently pulled to deep square leg for a single, and England were at 240-4 after 43 overs.

The 43rd over of the match was the seventh of Kyle Jamieson’s spell and that happened to be his last over of the innings as well because the pacer conceded 61 runs at an economy of 8.71.
Meanwhile, England posted a good total of 291/6 on the board after half-centuries from Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone. For the Kiwis, Rachin Ravindra was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a three-wicket haul.
