Ben Stokes shattered 182 runs in England vs New Zealand 3rd ODI on Wednesday to break Jason Roy’s record for the highest ODI knock by an England player. During the post-match presentation, Ben Stokes jokingly apologised to Jason Roy for breaking his record.

Ben Stokes smacked 182 runs in ENG vs NZ 3rd ODI. Batting at no.4, the left-handed batsman stormed 15 fours and 9 sixes. During his innings, Stokes played 124 deliveries. His match-winning knock helped England to crush New Zealand by a huge margin.

Really Pleased, Apologise To Jason Roy, Says Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes also won player of the match award in ENG vs NZ match for his fabulous knock. During the post-match press conference, Stokes jokingly apologised to Jason Roy for breaking his record. Roy held the record with his 180-run knock.

“Really pleased. Apologise to Jason [Roy]. We spoke about putting New Zealand under pressure and getting to a good start and even after losing those early wickets, we wanted to be positive. Once we got going, we did not want them (bowlers) to settle”, the England Test skipper said.

Other than Stokes, Dawid Malan was also a marvellous performer in the match. Malan scored 96 runs and etched a 199-run stand with Stokes for the 3rd wicket. The England all-rounder also hailed Dawid Malan for his performance in the match.

“As experienced players, we need to guide the younger players. He (Malan) is a very consistent player, he is a very quality player, rotates the strike very well as well and missed out on the milestone after getting a strangle down leg. I am feeling much better (in terms of fitness), Test matches are a bit longer but ODIs surely are not that demanding,” the left-handed batsman further said.

Talking about ENG vs NZ match, England piled up a mammoth 368-10 in 1st innings with tons by Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan. Later, they bowled out New Zealand for 187, winning the encounter by 181 runs.

With the victory, England has earned a 2-1 lead in the four-match ODI series. England vs New Zealand 4th ODI takes place on Friday (September 15) at Lord’s in London.
