The 35-year-old England National Cricket Team leg-spinner Adil Rashid bamboozled the 30-year-old New Zealand National Cricket Team opener Will Young at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Friday, September 8.
Losing the toss and batting first, England posted a good total of 291/6 on the board, riding on the half-centuries from Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone.
Captain Jos Buttler finished as the top run-getter for his team as he scored 72 runs. Dawid Malan scored 54 runs while Ben Stokes and Liam Livingstone smashed 52 runs each.
For New Zealand, Rachin Ravindra was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a brilliant three-wicket haul. Also, Tim Southee picked up two wickets while Lockie Ferguson got one.
Chasing the target in tricky conditions, Devon Conway and Will Young batted with great intent and provided their side with a great start. Both the openers batted with a good strike rate and New Zealand completed 50 runs in just 7.5 overs.
Adil Rashid Gets The Breakthrough For England
As Conway and Young looked set for a big partnership, the veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid came to bowl and got the much-needed breakthrough for his side. The leggie cleaned up Young with an absolute jaffa and Nasser Hussain on-air labeled it as a magical delivery.
On the first ball of the 10th over, Rashid bowled a tossed-up delivery that drifted in and drew Young forward. The ball then spun away to beat the outside edge and shatter the off-stump to leave the batter absolutely stunned. The leg-spinner was pumped up after picking his first wicket of the match and 100th wicket in England.
