Glenn Phillips is proving to be a game-changer for New Zealand in the ongoing first game of the ICC World Cup 2023 against England. The part-time spinner has been nothing short of exceptional at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Glenn Phillips gave his team a scalp of Moeen Ali in the first over that he bowled and after that didn’t bowl for a while. However, as he was introduced into the attack for his second over, he again provided his side with the crucial breakthrough, this time of Joe Root.

Glenn Phillips bowled a bowled yorker delivery to which Joe Root tried to play the reverse sweep. The ball went under his bat and went on to hit the leg stump. The wicket was much needed for New Zealand as the English batter was going great guns.

Joe Root was the only English batter who looked settled. The right-hander played some crips shots and held the one end despite wickets falling at the other. He scored 77 runs off 86 balls and also smashed 6 fours and 1 six in his innings. Here’s the video:

Glenn Phillips also removed Moeen Ali with a peach as well. He bowled a short ball that had a hint of spin in it and Moeen Ali misjudged it and rocked back in the crease to pull it away. However, he played the wrong line, missed the ball completely, and saw his stumps getting shattered.

New Zealand spinners have bowled exceptionally well and have put their team on the front foot.

Irfan Pathan lauds Tom Latham As Glenn Phillips Removes Joe Root

Tom Latham, who’s captaining New Zealand, has displayed great leadership skills in the ongoing game. Whatever he has touched has turned into gold. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan lauded the southpaw, saying that he has made brilliant bowling changes.

Taking to his X account, he said: “Tom Latham’s captaincy has been top-notch in this match. He caught the match pulse on every occasion. Brilliant bowling changes with the resources he has.”
