As England gear up to defend their ODI World Cup title, one of their heroes from the last edition of the competition, Jofra Archer has resumed bowling. The fast bowler has not been named in England’s 15-member squad for the competition due to injury.
Jofra Archer has not played competitive cricket since April 2023 after the recurrence of the stress fracture injury to his elbow. In fact, the World Cup winner has been struggling with injuries for quite some time now. It all began in January 2020 when he was ruled of three out of four Tests during England’s tour of South Africa, and the T20I series that followed, due to the elbow injury.
2021 was not an exception either as he missed the entire IPL before being ruled out of action for the remainder of the year after scans revealed another stress fracture in his elbow in August. In 2022 too, he missed the IPL as well as all the international games for England after suffering a stress fracture in his back.
He finally returned to competitive cricket in January this year as he played two ODIs against South Africa and also played against Bangladesh. Jofra Archer traveled to India too for the IPL before his stint was cut short with another elbow issue. He was subsequently ruled out of the English summer.

Not many were surprised when Jofra Archer was not named in the England squad for the World Cup as he continues to battle the injury setbacks. However, the fast bowler has sent out a timely reminder to England selectors and the team management that he might just be ready in time for the mega event in India.
On Monday, he joined the England ODI team at the Oval in London and was seen bowling in the nets. Jofra Archer is not a part of the squad for the ongoing series against New Zealand.

Well, a fit Jofra Archer would find a place in any team in the world and it won’t be wrong to say that England would be tempted to have him in their squad for the mega event. England men’s selector, Luke Wright recently stated that the pacer would likely go to India as a travelling reserve, with the hope that he could be able to play some part in the competition’s latter stages.
