Babar Azam-led Pakistan suffered a crushing 23-run defeat in the second T20I of the ongoing four-game series against England.

After the first match in Leeds was completely washed out, both the teams locked horns in the second T20I in Birmingham on Saturday (May 25). Pakistan did manage to get on the front foot on a number of occasions in the game but eventually ended up on the losing side as the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the series.

Batting first, England rode on their skipper Jos Buttler's half-century to post a competitive total of 183 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. At one stage, they were on 144 for 2 in the 15th over and were looking set to post a 200-plus total. However, Pakistan did well to pull things back towards the end and restricted the home side to less than 190 runs.

The Men in Green, however, could not capitalize on the momentum their bowlers gave them in the death overs. Both the openers - Mohammad Rizwan (0) and Saim Ayub (2) - failed to get going and Pakistan just could not recover from the poor start. The likes of Babar Azam (32), Fakhar Zaman (45), Iftikhar (23), and Imad Wasim (22) played handy knocks but their efforts were not enough as Pakistan were bowled out for 160.

Failure with the bat costs Babar Azam big:

Babar Azam might rue his latest failure to score big. The Pakistan skipper had the opportunity to get a Mercedes car but could not get it because of not scoring a century. Well, before the start of the game, a Pakistani fan had promised to gift the Pakistan captain a Mercedes car if he scored a century in the game.

"If a Babar scores a century, then I have brought this key with me as proof that I keep my word. Please Babar Azam, give us happiness by scoring a century and take this Mercedes," said the fan in the video that has gone viral on social media.

While Babar Azam could not score a century in the game, he did move past Rohit Sharma in the list of all-time leading run-scorers in T20Is. The right-handed batsman is currently second in the list behind Virat Kohli and has the opportunity to leapfrog the India star as well.
