England captain Jos Buttler expressed his disappointment over his form and performance with the bat during the World Cup 2023. Jos Buttler acknowledged that his underwhelming performance has had a significant impact on the team, given his pivotal role as captain.

The Three Lions suffered a 33-run loss to the Australian team in their recent match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, November 4. England were officially eliminated from the World Cup following the recent defeat against their archrivals.

England had never before experienced six losses in a single World Cup, marking a historically disappointing performance. They are at the bottom of the 10-team points table, securing only one victory out of the seven matches they have played in the tournament so far.

My Own Form Has Been The Biggest Concern – Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler expressed that his own performance was the most frustrating aspect of the tournament, but he remained determined to improve.

“My own form has been the biggest concern. To have not played as well as I can. My own performances with the bat have really hurt us. I have a pivotal position in the side. So to perform as poorly as I have done has had a big impact on the team,” said Buttler.

“I haven’t lost faith in myself, others will lose faith in me sooner than I do in myself, but as a captain, you want to lead from the front so my performance has been the most frustrating thing in the tournament,” he further added.

Buttler managed to score just one run off seven deliveries during the run chase against Australia. The right-handed batter attempted a big shot down the ground against leg spinner Adam Zampa, but it went straight into the hands of Cameron Green at long off.

Australia Register Convincing Victory In Ahmedabad

Australia set up a total of 286 after being asked to bat first in Ahmedabad. Middle-order batter Marnus Labuschagne scored 71 runs from 83 deliveries. England pacer Chris Woakes picked up four wickets, while Mark Wood and Adil Rashid contributed two wickets each.

In response, the Jos Buttler-led team was bowled out for 253 runs in their penultimate group-stage match. Ben Stokes was the top scorer with 64 runs off 90 balls, including two fours and three sixes. Adam Zampa was named Player of the Match for his three-wicket haul.
