Zaka Ashraf received a three-month extension as the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from the Pakistan government, despite recent controversies. The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination issued a government notification on Saturday evening.

Earlier this year, Zaka Ashraf was appointed as the PCB chief by former Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif for a four-month term after Najam Sethi’s resignation in July. The current interim management committee, headed by Ashraf, was set to conclude on November 5.

Zaka Ashraf Gets Three Months Extension As PCB Chief

The notification, released by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), stated that it had “approved extension of three months in tenure period of present Management Committee w.e.f 5th November, 2023.”

There have been significant issues within the administration. These problems include controversial press releases, a leaked WhatsApp conversation, criticism from committee members regarding decision-making, and a lack of progress in conducting board elections.

The extension aims to allow the committee to finalize the Board of Governors (BoG) and conduct chairman elections. The committee is not permitted to make policy decisions or high-level appointments, and it will not receive further extensions beyond February 2024.

We’ll Look After This Tournament – Anwar ul Haq Kakar

In an interview, the Interim Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, mentioned that they will assess the situation after the World Cup to determine what actions are necessary. Kakar indicated that sometimes decisions must align with the doctrine of necessity.

“At this time, you know there is a tournament going on. We’ll look after this tournament what needs doing, what doesn’t need doing. At this moment, I don’t think we are going to make a big decision. The reason for that is that at times you have to work according to the doctrine of necessity. Once we are past the World Cup, then we’ll see,” Kakar told Dawn News TV.
