Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman (PCB) Zaka Ashraf reacted to Inzamam-ul-Haq’s shocking resignation from the post of chief selector. The head of the governing body said that the former skipper took the decision without his consent.

Inzamam-ul-Haq in a bombshell announcement on Monday (30th October) resigned from the post of chief selector. This came as a surprise for many as he took the decision in the midst of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Zaka Ashraf wasn’t amazed by Inzamam-ul-Haq’s decision and said that he wasn’t aware. He mentioned that before his announcement to retire, he set up a meeting with a former skipper “to seek clarification on the ongoing controversy. But instead of meeting or giving his clarification, he resigned.”

For the unversed, there have been a lot of controversies going in Pakistan Cricket. A news channel in Pakistan shared a screenshot of Babar Azam’s chat with PCB COO Salman Naseer after Rashid Latif claimed that Zaka Ashraf wasn’t replying captain’s messages.

Also, various experts of Pakistan cricket targeted PCB and Inzamam-ul-Haq for the team selection. They made a bold claim that there was a lobism in the section and they have picked players of their choice and the entire team is based on friendships.

PAK vs BAN: Inzamam-ul-Haq talks about his retirement

Inzamam-ul-Haq Haq talked about his decision to resign. He said that he’s taking the decision based on the claims of lobying that are against him. He added that if PCB doesn’t find him guilty in the case, he will resume his role. He stated:

“I am stepping down from the post to offer the PCB the opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry about the conflict of interest allegations raised in the media. If the committee finds me not guilty, I will resume my role as the chief selector.”

Inzamam-ul-Haq was appointed as the chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. He did a decent job with selections but the team’s performance in both events wasn’t up to the mark. In the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, the Babar Azam-led side are having a horrendous campaign. They have just 2 wins from 6 games and have suffered defeats against India, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa. One more loss in the tournament would be curtains for them in the event.
