Former England National Cricket Team captain Michael Vaughan was upset with the horrible show of the English team in the ICC World Cup 2023.

The Three Lions under the leadership of Jos Buttler entered the ICC World Cup 2023 as one of the favorites to win the entire thing. They were picked as the semi-finalists by almost every cricket expert and many even backed them to play in the final. They were also in stellar form heading into the competition, having hammered New Zealand in a home series.

However, the World Cup campaign of Team England has turned out to be an awful one as they have won just one game out of five so far and are on the verge of getting knocked out of the semi-finals race.

England opened their campaign with a 9-wicket loss to New Zealand, but they bounced back strong to beat Bangladesh by 137 runs. Since then, things have gone downhill for them as they have faced a 69-run loss to Afghanistan, a 229-run loss to South Africa, and an 8-wicket loss against Sri Lanka.

Michael Vaughan was left furious looking at England???s struggle against Sri Lanka in the 25th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 26.

Michael Vaughan took to his official X handle, to label the ongoing campaign of England in the competition as one of the worst World Cup campaigns in the history of English cricket.

???This is turning out to be one of the worst World Cup campaigns in English cricket history .. btw .. & we have had some stinkers,??? Michael Vaughan wrote on X.

Talking about the ENG vs SL clash, England won the toss and opted to bat. They were off to a good start in the match as the opening duo of Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow added 45 runs together. However, after that, they faced a collapse and were reduced to 85/5.

Ben Stokes tried to steady the ship along with veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali (15), but they were unsuccessful, and in the end, they were bundled out for 156 in 33.2 overs, which was the lowest-ever ODI score in Bengaluru.

Chasing the target, Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama hit brilliant half-centuries and they finished with scores of 77 and 65 to guide their side to a comprehensive win.
