ENG vs SL: Watch - Jonny Bairstow And Kusal Mendis Exchange Heated Words

Jonny Bairstow and Kusal Mendis were engaged in a heated exchange of words during the ongoing game of the ICC World Cup 2023. The 25th game of the tournament is underway at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. 

England were bundled out for just 156 runs but they are making sure that they keep intensity up with the ball. The defending champions are also making sure that they give a hard time to the opposition and put them under pressure to make a match out of it. 

Jonny Bairstow tried to get under the skin of Kusal Mendis and the duo then exchanged some words. It happened during the third over. The England batter while walking told something to the Sri Lanka batter and after that, the latter didn’t shy away from giving it back.

Jonny Bairstow sledging him seemed to have worked as Kusal Mendis was dismissed early. The Sri Lanka captain was back in the hut for 11 runs. He got a leading edge off David Willey’s delivery and was caught by Jos Buttler. 

Apart from Kusal Mendis, England also removed Kusal Perera. David Willey did the damage and drew the first blood for his team. If the Jos Buttler-led side chip in with a few more wickets, it’s fair to say it’ll be a game on Bengaluru. They have lost three games and a loss here would also end their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.

England opted to bat first and they had a decent start with the bat as Jonny Bairstow (30) and Dawid Malan (28) played solid strokes. But they failed to capture the starts they got. After the openers were back in the hut, the defending champions suffered a collapse and lost wickets in clusters. 

Ben Stokes (43) tried to keep the side in the game with his vital knock but couldn’t continue. Sri Lanka bowlers were all over the batters. Lahiru Kumara picked three wickets whereas Angelo Mathews and Kasun Rajitha bagged two scalps each.
