ENG vs WI: Shimron Hetmyer Released From T20Is Series, Johnson Charles Invited As Replacement

West Indies has announced the squad for the last two T20I games against England. Notably, the home team has dropped Shimron Hetmyer from the squad amid his poor form. Shimron Hetmyer was part of the first two games and dropped from the playing XI in the ENG vs WI 3rd T20I.

Shimron Hetmyer has struggled to score runs in the ENG vs WI T20I series. The left-handed batter scored just 1 and 2 in the first two games. In the ODI series too, Shimron Hetmyer failed to come up with a brilliant show. He got out for 32 in the 1st ODI, a duck in the 2nd ODI, and 12 runs in the 3rd ODI.

Johnson Charles Replaces Shimron Hetmyer In West Indies Squad

West Indies has invited Johnson Charles as a replacement for Shimron Hetmyer for the final two T20I games. Charles last played in the T20I series against India in August. The right-handed batter scored 3, 2, and 12 in the three T20I games against India and was dropped from the final two games during the series which West Indies won 3-2.

Alzarri Joseph Rested For Last Two Games

Another change that West Indies made in their squad for the final two ENG vs WI T20I games was resting Alzarri Joseph. The Caribbean pacer has been given rest ahead of the forthcoming Australia tour, where he will play a major role.

West Indies will face Australia in a multi-format series including 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is in January 2024. Joseph showed marvelous form in the first three games, picking 6 wickets to become the leading wicket-taker for the side.

However, the right-arm pacer struggled with his economy, which stood at 12.43 across three encounters. Oshane Thomas has been called in as a replacement for Alzarri Joseph in the squad. Below is the West Indies full squad for the last two ENG vs WI T20Is.

West Indies Leads T20I Series 2-1

Meanwhile, West Indies leads the five-match T20I series against England 2-1 after three matches. West Indies won the 1st T20I by 4 wickets and the 2nd T20I by 10 runs. In the previous game, the hosts suffered a defeat by 7 wickets. Hence, West Indies need one more victory to clinch the series in their favor.

Earlier, West Indies outplayed England in the ODI series. During the three-match series, West Indies crushed the visitors by 4 wickets each in 1st and 3rd ODI. They lost the 2nd ODI by 6 wickets but emerged as eventual champions after winning the final game.
