English cricket has been rocked by several claims of sexual harassment by its members, and the investigations have also found the alleged perpetrators guilty. This has hindered their reputation on the international platform. Another such investigation has once again been started on a well-known figure associated with English cricket.
English cricket personality accused of sexual harassment
Currently, a well-known figure in the English cricket circle has been investigated by police over the disgraceful actions of spiking two women and sexually assaulting one of them.
The newspaper The Telegraph Sport has disclosed that the man is in his 40s and was questioned by Scotland Yard in June after a complaint was registered about a potential spike at a pub in the southwest region of London.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “Two women are believed to have been spiked with one also allegedly sexually assaulted. A man in his 40s was interviewed under caution on Thursday, June 5. Enquiries remain ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage.”
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been made aware of the investigation and has been contacted for comment. The England board has also recently been through a lucrative process to sell shares on behalf of teams in its Hundred competition
Several Incidents of Sexual Assault have been reported in the ECB
The game of cricket has been hit by these regular reports of sexual harassment, as they have shown two incidents of sexual misconduct over the past 12 months. Back in August, one of the unnamed coaches from the ECB was suspended for nine months after admitting that he had sent sexually explicit pictures to two female junior members of staff.
His name was not revealed because the authorities were afraid of a serious risk of harm if his identity was made public.
Back in November last year, another professional coach was suspended for 6 months for "inappropriate sexual behaviour" on a pre-season tour with an unnamed men's and women's county team.
England are currently focused on their Ashes tour
England, the national Test side, recently concluded the series against India. They have hosted the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after renaming the formerly known Pataudi Trophy. The series marked great anticipation, some crunchy cricket action, and thrilling finishes.
The Indian team, under their new skipper Shubman Gill's leadership, also gave it back to the English bowlers and hence marked a 2-2 draw between the two legendary Test rivals. England's next big series would be the Australia tour.
The Ashes is the most highly anticipated Test series in the world. They are currently focused on their tour as they look forward to reclaiming the Urn from the Aussies.
