The England National Cricket Team will be up against the Australia National Cricket Team for a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series. This is an away series for Harry Brook’s side ahead of the series the Three Lions have struck an injury as pacer Josh Tongue has been ruled out of the full white-ball series.

England under Harry Brook has done well in recent times in the white-ball format. They won two series at home against India and Sri Lanka, respectively, as they dominated them completely. However, in the tri-series against Pakistan, they failed to make an impact and were knocked out after losing three games in a row. They will look to turn back in Australia.

Josh Tongue ruled out of Australia series

Josh Tongue has been ruled out of England Men’s white-ball tour of Australia due to a toe injury. He will return to the UK to undergo further assessment. He was part of the side that has already reached Australia and is playing the unofficial warm-up matches ahead of the tour. This is a big blow for the side, as the pacer has been in good form.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is yet to announce a replacement for the 28-year-old pacer. Hopefully he recovers in time, while Matthew Potts can be a possible replacement, as he has been a hit-the-deck bowler and has been preferred as an injury replacement in recent times. Craig Overton can be another pacer who can get a call.

Josh Tongue's white-ball career

Josh Tongue made his ODI and T20I debut in the series against India. He first made his T20I debut on July 4th in the second T20I, where he did not have the best of outings, going for 46/0 in his four overs. However, he came back strong and picked 7 wickets in the series with 4/28 in his second game.

In the ODIs, he played just two games and picked one wicket in his debut game on July 14th against the Men in Blue side. So far, he has played five matches for the Three Lions and picked 5 wickets. He is still new to the white-ball setup and will need time to develop as a pacer. Overall, he has taken 46 wickets in 17 matches across all formats.

England won the warm-up game against the Western Australia Men, as they will look to win this series against Australia. Their recent performances in the white-ball has been good at home but away from home they have struggled. That is the reason they are 8th in the ODI rankings. They would want to test the side against a quality opponent like Australia.
