Indian captain Virat Kohli is all gearing himself for a mouth-watering battle against England in the pink-ball Test that begins on Wednesday. The day and night Test will occur at the revamped Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, where the conditions are largely unknown. While England skipper Joe Root remains confident of exposing India’s weakness, Virat Kohli expressed his readiness in putting the visitors in unease too.
England vice-captain and ace all-rounder Ben Stokes already revealed that James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Jofra Archer are already licking their lips at the prospect of bowling with the pink ball. Stokes added that they had to stop bowling after the light came on since it became dangerous for the batsmen. Archer, who could not play the second Test, is likely to feature in the pink-ball Test.
Joe Root, who struck a double hundred in the first Test in a winning effort, feels that if the conditions are primarily seam-friendly, then they have the upper hand since the Englishmen’s growing up in their home conditions would be helpful. Hence, handling the situations in the right way would be the key.
We are focused on our strengths as a team: Virat Kohli
Indian skipper Virat Kohli underlined that they are firmly focussed on their strengths and that their bowlers could exploit the opposition’s weaknesses. Thus, if the overhead conditions are seamer-friendly, the English team could face challenges too.
“We are focused on our strengths as a team. There are weaknesses in the opposition as well and we have the bowlers to exploit those weaknesses. If the conditions are going to be seamer-friendly, then it’s going to be a challenge for them too,” Kohli told in a pre-match press conference.
