England Leapfrog India To Go On Top Of The ICC World Test Championship

The England Cricket Team have climbed to the top spot of the ICC World Test Championship after beating India in the first Test of the four-match series on Tuesday. The English team beat India by 227 runs to go in a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. After this game, team India have gone down to the fourth spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table.

Going into the final day of the Test match, the Indian team needed 381 runs to win the Test on the final day. However, a fine reverse swing spell by James Anderson meant that the Indian Cricket Team kneeled in front of the visitors, much to the surprise of world cricket fans after beating Australia in their backyard last month.

England Go On Top Of The ICC World Test Championship Points Table

After an emphatic win over the hosts, the England team have now gone on top of the ICC World Test Championship points table. English skipper Joe Root led the team from the front as he smacked a scintillating double century in the first innings of the match. The knock proved to be the very difference between both sides.

A fine spell from Ravichandran Ashwin on Day 4 meant that the hosts had a slight chance to bounce back as the most successful bowler in Chennai picked 6 wickets in the second innings. However, it didn’t prove enough for the hosts as the English bowlers were right on the cue with aid from the Chennai turf. Team India, have now gone on the fourth spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table.

England And India Lock Horns In The Second Test From February 13

Now, India and England will lock horns in the second Test of the series from February 13 at Chennai. The series is very crucial from the ICC World Test Championship perspective as this series will determine who will meet New Zealand in the final of the tournament that is slated to take place from June 18 at Lord’s.

As far as the English tour is concerned, the final two Test matches will be played at Ahmedabad, followed by a five-match T20I series being played at Ahmedabad itself. The tour will come to a close with a 3-match ODI series being played entirely at Pune.
