England punished by ICC umpires; WTC Table changed after Massive Points Deduction

England, led by Ben Stokes, have been penalized for maintaining a slow over rate in the third Test of the five-match series against the Shubman Gill-led Indian team. The English side has been docked two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points and also fined 10 percent of their match fee after the contest.
England defeated India by 22 runs in the third Test at Lord’s on Monday, July 14, to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. With both teams scoring the same total in their first innings, the match was evenly poised. England then set a 192-run target for India. The hosts held their nerves to secure the victory.
England Docked Points for Slow Over Rate in 3rd Test vs India at Lord's
The ICC announced on Wednesday, July 16, that England have been penalized for a slow over rate during the third Test against India. The team has been docked two ICC World Test Championship points and fined 10 percent of their match fee.

England captain Ben Stokes accepted the charges and the sanctions proposed by match referee Richie Richardson. There is no need for a formal hearing.
The over-rate offence was reported by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, along with third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Graham Lloyd.

England Dropped to Third Place in WTC 2025-26 Standings
England’s World Test Championship points total has dropped from 24 to 22 following a penalty for a slow over rate. Their points percentage also dropped from 66.67% to 61.11%. They have slipped to third place in the standings, while Sri Lanka have moved up to second.
"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time."
"In addition, as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. Consequently, two World Test Championship points have been deducted from England’s points total."
Ben Stokes Named Player Of THe Match for his performce
Ben Stokes earned the Player of the Match award for his all-round effort in England’s narrow win over India. He bowled 24 overs in India’s second innings. The English skipper picked up three crucial wickets, including KL Rahul, and also contributed with the bat in a low-scoring contest.
With the World Test Championship standings tightly contested, England’s two-point deduction for a slow over rate could also impact their chances going forward.
