Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin was highly critical of the Indian batting performance in the Headingly Test as the visitors lost heaps of wickets on the fourth day to lose the Test. India scripted one of the historic wins at the Lord’s while this performance will certainly make them a lot worried about their inconsistency.

The batting order has to be looked at closely, as the collapses have come quite often and India will need a better solution at foremost. The top order has done really well so far in the series while the middle order has been very inconsistent and the team combination hasn’t helped the cause too. Ollie Robinson’s second five-wicket haul meant that England won by an innings and 76 runs.

Mohammad Azharuddin Views On India’s Batting Performance

Mohammad Azharuddin took it to Twitter to express his concerns over the batting performance of India in the Headingley Test and reckoned that India’s technical flaws against swing bowling have taken over a lot in the depleted Indian batting lineup. He added that India could have taken a lot more confidence from the Test if they had dragged it on the fifth and final day of the Test. He termed it as “a day to forget” considering the collapse.

“Lack of technique & application to play swing led to an inept batting display by India. At the least, we could have batted much better & taken the match to Day 5. Definitely, a day to forget.” Mohammad Azharuddin tweeted on Twitter

India’s Batting Collapse In First Innings

India after winning the toss and batting first on day one of the Headingly test suffered yet another batting collapse that was heartbreaking. They succumbed to their ninth-lowest total ever in tests of 78 all out and it was the third-lowest total against England. India hasn’t been consistent enough in recent times to dominate and a bad day might just be around the corner always despite their spirited win at Lord’s.

India’s middle-order might be a huge concern as they haven’t been to contribute constantly including the Indian skipper as well and Suryakumar Yadav could soon get a look in.
