England vs India 3rd Test: "India Are Going In With Four No 11s" - Nasser Hussain Condemns India's Team Selection

Former England captain Nasser Hussain was surprised by India’s team combination to go in with four fast bowlers and criticized the side for not picking all-rounders. Virat Kohli won a toss after a long time and chose to bat first in the third test at Headingly with India leading the series 1-0.

The Indian batting order collapsed totally on day one and they were bundled up for just 78 in the first innings. Rohit and Rahane were the only batsmen to get off to double digits while no other batter showed intent. England took the bowling confidence into their batting department as they finished at 120 for no loss.

Nasser Hussain Feels India’s Batting Looks Fragile

Nasser Hussain mentioned that India doesn’t look to have a strong batting side and was surprised by the fact that India has opted for fast bowlers who do not bat much. He also wasn’t worried about Bumrah and Shami’s match-winning knocks at Lord’s and still feels like the two are tailenders.

“I have said India’s batting looks fragile, and I still cannot believe they are going into a series in England against a Dukes ball with such a long tail. And that still applies despite what Bumrah and Mohammed Shami did at Lord’s.” Nasser Hussain wrote for dailymail.co.uk

Nasser Hussain Reckons India Should Pack Their Batting In England

Nasser Hussain reckoned that India’s last four batsmen in the lineup are capable of batting at No.11 and hence felt that it wouldn’t be ideal for them to bat to come in early. He added that India’s vulnerability in the batting order will be exposed at some point like in Headingly. India opted for Ishant Sharma ahead of all-rounders Shardul Thakur and R Ashwin which has been one of the talking points.

“Now India are going in with four No 11s. It cannot be the way to go in England — you can always lose a couple of early wickets, as they did on Wednesday, and your No 8 in Shami has to start looking for his pads,” he added.

The four Indian bowlers are yet to pick up a wicket in the Headingly test and they will be under high pressure to perform on day two.
