Former England captain Eoin Morgan has paid the ultimate tribute to Team India for their domination in Tests in the last one decade or so. The World Cup-winning captain lavished praise on the Rohit Sharma-led side for their stunning win over Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test.
The Test looked set to end in a draw due to rain and wet outfield. Only 35 overs were bowled on day one of the Test while not a single delivery was bowled on the second and third days. However, Team India still managed to thrash Bangladesh by seven wickets to clean-sweep the two-match series.
After bowling out Bangladesh for 233 runs, India came out all guns blazing with the bat. They went on to smash the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 in Tests and declared their innings on 285/9. In the second innings, Bangladesh scored only 146 runs before India chased down the required 95 runs with utmost ease.
The 2-0 win over Bangladesh has further extended India's domination in Tests at home. The series victory was India's 18th in a row at home. India have not lost a Test series at home since the 2-1 loss against England way back in 2012. During this period, they have only lost 4 Tests at home.
One of the greatest in their own conditions: Eoin Morgan:
Eoin Morgan has hailed the Indian team as 'one of the greatest in their own conditions'. He also said that even though some of the most celebrated sides in the history of cricket such as England have huge advantages at home, no team has managed to dominate at home like India have.
Eoin Morgan also said that if India replicated the brand of cricket that they played in Kanpur, they would be asking a lot of questions to Australia. India are scheduled to visit Australia in November for a five-match Test series.
"If they go to Australia and play in that manner, a big part of that series will lie in the balance on the fitness of Nathan Lyon and how they play (him). If they take that mindset into playing Nathan Lyon like that, it asks a lot of questions of Australia," Eoin Morgan told PTI.
"They have to be considered one of the greatest in their own conditions. What makes them so good is their hunger and desire to want to win. Their attitude towards that they never take for granted.
"We come from countries that have huge advantages for the home side. But yet our records over the course of generations are nowhere near as good as Indians," added Eoin Morgan.
Before touring Australia, India will be hosting New Zealand for a three-match series. India will all but seal their passage to the final of the World Test Championship if they manage to clean-sweep the series against New Zealand.
