Team India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer drew attention on social media after sharing a celebratory post following India's six-wicket win over England in the first ODI of the three-match series at Edgbaston. The middle-order batter posted a series of match photos with a short caption, sparking reactions from cricket fans.
India secured a six-wicket victory on Tuesday, July 14, and a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series after suffering a disappointing 4-0 defeat in the preceding T20I series against England. The Shubman Gill-led team will look to seal the series during the second ODI in Cardiff before the third and final match at Lord's.
Shreyas Iyer's Run-Out Ends Promising Knock Against England
Shreyas Iyer helped stabilize India's innings with Shubman Gill after the early wickets. However, a mix-up while running between the wickets ended the promising partnership and slowed India's progress during the chase.
After Gill retired hurt with severe leg cramps, Washington Sundar pushed the ball towards mid-on and called for a quick single. Iyer responded but hesitated after seeing Harry Brook collect the ball. He changed his running line instead of sprinting straight to the crease and was run out.
Shreyas Iyer's innings ended at 35 off 53 balls without attempting a dive to make his ground. Interestingly, his previous ODI run-out also came against England during the second match of the home ODI series in Cuttack in 2025.
Shreyas Iyer's 'Team First' Post Grabs Attention After England ODI Win
Indian cricket fans quickly flooded the comment section of the post from Shreyas Iyer. A large section of the public compared the team's current success under the present leadership to previous assignments that yielded poor results.

Yes team effort but definitely you are not included. If you were the captain, the outcome would have been different.

Axar Patel, Washington Sundar Star as India Take 1-0 Series Lead
England chose to bat first after winning the toss but were bowled out for 258 in 47.5 overs. Axar Patel starred with the ball, picking up 4/41, while Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar claimed two wickets each to keep the hosts under pressure throughout the innings.
India's chase began with early setbacks as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli fell cheaply. Captain Shubman Gill scored 80 before retiring hurt because of leg cramps. India slipped to 160/4, but Washington Sundar (52)* and Axar Patel (57)* added an unbeaten century stand to guide the visitors home in 45.2 overs.
The victory ended India's disappointing run after the 4-0 T20I series defeat and gave them a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Axar was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance. India will now look to seal the series in the second ODI at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on July 16.
