Everything was going India's way as Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer had stitched a brilliant 100-run partnership and put England under huge pressure, but the momentum was severely dented when the captain looked uncomfortable and stopped in the middle of the field.

Gill removed his gloves and bent down on the pitch. He was seen holding the back of his right leg and looked in visible pain. This left everyone confused whether it was only cramps or a hamstring injury.

The Indian team's physio immediately attended Gill on the field. The physio stretched Gill's right leg to reduce the pain. After that, the Indian captain also received a massage on his back while the medical staff continued checking his condition.

Earlier, it seemed that the Indian skipper was having cramps as he resumed batting after the brief treatment. However, the pain returned after a couple of overs, and physio rushed onto the field, and this time, Gill decided against continuing batting and walked back to the dressing room.

With Gill retiring hurt, Washington Sundar came in to bat. Now, India will be hoping their captain recovers quickly because Gill has been in excellent form with the bat, and they can’t afford another defeat after facing a whitewash in the T20I series 4-0 under Shreyas Iyer.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill's departure completely changed the momentum for India as England made a strong comeback with two quick wickets in the match. First, Shreyas Iyer was run out after the brilliant fielding efforts from the England captain Harry Brook.

Washington Sundar gently pushed the ball towards mid-on, and both batters went for a quick single. While running, Iyer changed his way to avoid getting hit by the ball, and that move proved costly. Brook quickly picked up the ball and hit the stumps with a direct throw. Amid this, MS Dhoni steals the spotlight with appearance at India vs England 1st ODI.

Iyer was run out for 35 off 53 balls after playing a steady knock. England struck again just a few balls later when Josh Tongue dismissed KL Rahul. The fast bowler delivered a short-of-a-length ball outside off stump.

Rahul tried to hit it through the offside, but got an inside edge that crashed into his stumps. He was bowled for just 1, putting the Men in Blue under pressure. The touring side still needs 52 runs from 14 overs, and they have six wickets in hand at Edgbaston.
