Jos Buttler opines that Eoin Morgan has been the harbinger of immense success and the heights England cricket has reached in the past few years. On Tuesday against India, Eoin Morgan became only the fourth player to feature in 100th T20Is; Jos Buttler, Morgan’s close friend presented the skipper with the 100th cap ahead of the start of the game.

The left-hander led his country to its first-ever 50-over World Cup a couple of years ago. Buttler, who has become an indispensable member of the white-ball team, has been a crucial part of this journey. He lauds Morgan for the way the Irishman has transformed England’s status in limited-overs cricket, as a captain as well as a batsman.

“He’s been a pioneer for England’s white-ball cricket – he was a pioneer as a player to start with and certainly as a captain and leader. He’s taken England’s white-ball cricket to places it’s never been before and he’s done it in a quite incredible way. He’s a selfless guy but it’s no mean achievement to reach 100 caps,” Jos Buttler said after his Man of the Match performance on Tuesday.

I know I’ve got the full backing of Morgan: Jos Buttler

While Buttler is, no doubt, one of the most dangerous openers in T20 cricket – opening in 17 T20Is, the right-hander averages 51.23 and strikes at 153.10 with 7 fifties – however, there have been debates over whether the team could do better with him in the middle – in the role of a finisher as in ODIs.

However, the 30-year-old made it clear that Morgan has given full support and wants him to play his natural attacking game at the top, despite several options available.

“I don’t know if it will ever end, people seem to quite enjoy talking about it. I certainly feel the pressure of that sometimes. We have lots of guys who would love to bat in that opening position. For most people, it’s probably the best place to bat in the game. But I know I’ve got the full backing of Morgs (Eoin Morgan) to go and do it, which gives me a lot of confidence.

“I know Morgs is keen for me to open in this team and I do it with his backing,” Buttler told reporters after the match. Eoin is always clear with every single player on what he expects of them, at the moment he wants me to open and backs me 100 percent,” Buttler asserted.

With another round of superb performances from the pacers, and then chasing down the target with the help of Buttler’s fifty, England has taken a 2-1 lead in the series. The fourth game is scheduled to be played on Thursday.
