Essex has taken strong action against Robin Das. Essex confirmed that Robin Das is no longer part of the county cricket club. The decision comes after the 24-year-old appeared before a court in London on Friday (October 9) in a case in which he faces two rape charges.
His legal case is still ongoing, with the trial scheduled for January 2028. The case dates back to March 2024, when a woman was reportedly raped in Brixton. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Das was arrested in August 2025 and charged with two counts of rape in July. Robin Das appeared at Inner London Crown Court on Friday and was granted conditional bail while he awaits trial. The trial is expected to last five days. The batter didn’t get much game time with the Essex County cricket club this season. He played just one first-team match.
The batter scored 29 runs against Middlesex in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup on July 21. However, Das’ association with the club has now come to an end, with Essex confirming that his contract expired before the 2026 season ended.
The club explained that Das had been suspended and was unable to carry out his playing responsibilities. Essex also stressed that the decision to end his contract was made separately from the criminal proceedings, which are continuing through the legal system.

Essex County Cricket Club said in an official statement, “Essex County Cricket Club is aware of today's court proceedings involving Robin Das. The club recognizes the seriousness of the matter and will not comment further on the circumstances of the case.”
The club further added, “Das's playing contract with Essex ended prior to the conclusion of the 2026 season following his suspension and his resulting unavailability to fulfill his playing obligations. This decision was separate from the ongoing legal proceedings.”
Essex confirms cooperation with ECB and PCA in Robin Das case
Essex said that the club will continue to work with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), and the Cricket Regulator on matters related to standards and player welfare. With Das's trial set for January 2028, the legal process is expected to continue for some time.
The club signed off by saying, “Essex County Cricket Club has robust safeguarding and disciplinary procedures in place and regularly reviews these to ensure they remain appropriate. We will continue to work closely with the ECB, PCA, and the Cricket Regulator as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards across the club.”
British-Bangladeshi batter Robin made his senior debut for Essex in 2020 at 18. The right-handed batter has scored 327 first-class runs, including a century, and 805 List A runs, with one hundred and five fifties. In T20 cricket, he has scored 341 runs with the help of two fifties so far.
