Team India opener Abhishek Sharma recently opened up about the vibrant atmosphere in the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) dressing room during the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sharma stated that skipper Pat Cummins and the SRH management encourage players to express themselves freely on the field.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have become synonymous with fearless cricket in the IPL. Over recent years, the team has built a reputation for an aggressive style that unsettles opponents. Opening batters Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head set the tone for this attacking approach, acting as the team’s first line of offense.
No Room for Fear - Abhishek Sharma Shares Pat Cummins’ Message
In a recent interview on Breakfast with Champions, Abhishek stated that head coach Daniel Vettori asks players if they have any concerns about facing specific bowlers, while Pat Cummins encourages each batter to decide how they want to attack, giving them complete freedom.
Abhishek narrates Pat Cummins saying, “In this team, even if we are 50/6, the next batter walking in should get out hitting. There shouldn’t be an element of fear. I am okay with the team being all out for 100. But I don’t want those safe scores of 160 and 170. If you want to hit all the six deliveries, go ahead and do it. I want us to be known for this brand of cricket.”

Pat Cummins Tells His Bowlers... - Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek also stated that Pat Cummins provides clear guidance for the bowlers. Sharma added that the bowlers were given a simple task of ensuring the opposition scores fewer runs than their team.
Cummins tells his bowlers, “The batters will do their bit. If they score 250 runs, we have to make sure that we limit the opposition to 249. As long as we win, I’m good.”
Since Pat Cummins took over as skipper, SunRisers Hyderabad have adopted a fearless and aggressive approach, with Abhishek and Travis Head setting the tone from the start.
SRH hold the record for the highest team total in IPL history, scoring 287/3 in 20 overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2024 season. Notably, the Orange Army has also achieved four of the highest team totals in IPL history.
