India star Mohammed Shami has slammed Australia’s Mitchell Marsh for putting his legs on the World Cup trophy to celebrate his team’s triumph. Australia, last Sunday (November 19), stunned India by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to clinch a record-extending sixth World Cup title.

The team from Down Under thoroughly outplayed the hosts to win the title decider. Bowling first, Australia bowled out India for a modest total of 240 runs despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. In reply, Australia were reeling at 47 for 3 before a huge 192-run stand between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne sealed the game for them. Head scored 137 while Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 58.

After the Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad, where the Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma faced a defeat against Australia, a viral image of Mitchell Marsh sparked controversy. The photo depicted the Australian cricket star placing his feet on the prestigious World Cup trophy, drawing criticism on social media for disrespecting the trophy and the spirit of the game.

Mohammed Shami slams Mitchell Marsh:

Australia allrounder Mitchell Marsh decided to celebrate the monumental win in a way that has not gone down well with many in India. His decision to pose for a photo by resting both of his legs on the World Cup trophy has not been well-received by many in India.

As soon as the photo surfaced, the fans slammed the allrounder for his conduct and now Mohammed Shami has joined the bandwagon too. He stated that he was upset by the gesture from the Australian star as he expressed his disappointment.

“I feel upset. Placing a foot on the trophy, the one every team competes for, the trophy you dream of raising, that didn’t make me happy,” Mohammed Shami said in an interview with PUMA India.

Speaking further, Mohammed Shami also opened up about his bowling. The right-arm pacer finished the World Cup as the highest wicket-taker despite not playing the first four games. In 7 games, he picked up a staggering 24 wickets including three five-wicket hauls.

“Usually, bowlers inspect the pitch upon reaching the ground. I avoid getting close to the wicket because you truly understand its behavior only when you start bowling. Why add unnecessary pressure? It’s better to stay simple, stay relaxed, and that’s when you’ll perform better.

“When you’re benched for four matches, you must stay mentally strong. There might be moments of pressure, but witnessing the team excel and moving in a positive direction brings satisfaction,” said Mohammed Shami.
