India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal decided to leave his domestic side Mumbai and move to Goa to play domestic cricket. The decision was made official a few days ago and it stirred up the Indian domestic circuit.
Former India and Mumbai batter Wasim Jaffer has opened up on Yashasvi Jaiswal's decision and feels that it is too early for the youngster to leave a domestic giant like Mumbai. Jaffer was shocked when he came to know about it and spoke about its disadvantages.
While Jaffer feels that Jaiswal is good enough to play all three formats for India, he feels that moving from Mumbai to Goa won't help the young opener further in his career due to the vast difference between the two sides.
"Leaving Mumbai is a shocking decision" - Wasim Jaffer
During a conversation on ESPNCricinfo's Time Out, Wasim Jaffer expressed his displeasure over Yashasvi Jaiswal's decision to move from Mumbai to Goa. Jaffer feels that it isn't great for a player at such a young age to leave a team like Mumbai.
“No matter what Goa was offering him. You don’t leave Mumbai, especially at this age. It’s okay if somebody is 34-35 then you want to go out. That differences with Mumbai team management must have prompted him to take this decision, but I think leaving Mumbai is a shocking decision," said Jaffer.
It is believed that Jaiswal had created differences with Mumbai's Ranji Trophy captain Ajinkya Rahane and even kicked his kitbag in anger. However, the report isn't official yet.
Jaffer also shed light on differences between the two teams and feels that Jaiswal has taken the decision too soon. While Mumbai is a domestic cricket giant and the most successsful team in Ranji Trophy, Goa just managed to qualify to the Elite Group by winning the Plate Group last season.
“Somebody who has played from Under-14s to now for Mumbai, and Goa being a plate-group team that has just come into the elite group – for him to go and play there, whatever time he will spend on first-class cricket, I am surprised he’s taken that decision so soon," he added.

Yashasvi Jaiswal should play all three formats: Wasim Jaffer
While speaking further on the same platform, Wasim Jaffer called for Yashasvi Jaiswal to play all three formats for India. However, he admitted that the move from Mumbai to Goa must be going on in the opener's mind for the last few days.
“But he (Jaiswal) shouldn’t be looking to play Ranji Trophy. For somebody like him, he should be playing for India in all three formats. That should be his focus. I’m sure it (the move) is playing on his mind. Because that has been happening in this week or two," he mentioned.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as one of the top-most openers in the country. He has established himself as the mainstay in India's Test team and is also in the squads of the other formats.
In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Australia, Jaiswal was India's highest run-scorer of the series. The left-hander is a serious talent who is likely to serve India for many more years to come.
Yashasvi Jaiswal's IPL form
Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. The opener failed to score big in the first three matches of the tournament but delivered a match-winning knock in the fourth match.
Jaiswal top-scored in the match with 67 off 45 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes. The Royals will hope their run machine to keep scoring runs consistently in the upcoming matches as well.
